Okay, PO Box 34567 turns out to be legitimate. Scratch that. It'll be interesting to see what else on the list were baseless suspicions. I was throwing everything I'd seen on the list, and I'm suspicious of a few.

There's now a $10,000 reward being offered for someody to provide a '70s era machine capable of duplicating the documents.

The general accused of exerting pressure in one doc had retired a year and a half before the date on the document. Nothing conclusive; he may have had influence with friends or what not enabiling him to exert pressure. It merely makes the document a little less plausible when added to all the other bits.

And, the supposed independent confirmation of the contents, which Dan Rather had used to defend the story, has evaporated. ABCNews reports:
According to Hodges, CBS told him the documents were "handwritten" and after CBS read him excerpts he said, "well if he wrote them that's what he felt." Hodges also said he did not see the documents in the 70's and he cannot authenticate the documents or the contents.
Yeah, he's a Republican partisan, and his turn may have been motivated by a decision to undo damage. OTOH, Rather has a motive not to be seen as taken in by phony docs, and a corroborating witness looks like a good defense, even if you have to distort what he said.

It'll be interesting to see if this goes anywhere.
