Death Penalty

Argh! I don't care whether it's a deterrent or not. A week of torture for littering could effectively deter littering -- that doesn't make it just to torture litterers. And it might be that no sentence, no matter how severe, can actually deter child rape -- and that doesn't make it just to let child rapists walk free. It is, IMO, totally irrelevant to the debate as to whether or not it is a deterrent to take a man's life for killing.
