A reason to vote Nader?

"The amendment should fully protect marriage, while leaving the state legislatures free to make their own choices in defining legal arrangements other than marriage."
That is, marriage for straight couples, civil unions for gay couples.
Kerry, on the subject of gay marriage:
"I believe as a matter of belief, that marriage is between a man and a woman. That's my belief. . . . I think that you need to have civil unions. That's my position. Everybody's known my position, there's nothing new about my position. It's been my position all the time I've been in the Senate and throught this race. I'm for civil unions."
That is, marriage for straight couples, civil unions for gay couples.

Total difference between the two? Bush favors a constitutional amendment enshrining the Bush-Kerry position on marriage, while Kerry doesn't support enshrining the Kerry-Bush position in the Constitution. Since a President has no authority of any kind over constitutional amendments, that's maybe a dime's worth of difference.
