When people say that "Europe" opposes a U.S. attack on Iraq, who do they mean? Well, the EU members against a U.S. attack on Iraq are France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria and Greece. On the other hand, EU or prospective EU members Spain, Italy, Denmark, the UK, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Bulgaria, and Romania all back the U.S.

So, two French-speaking countries, three German-speaking countries, and Greece are "Europe". Spain, Italy, Denmark, the UK, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Bulgaria, and Romania are not "Europe", but part of the U.S., since the U.S. is acting "unilaterally", and therefore cannot have the support of ten European countries. I'm not sure when the U.S. annexed them, but I'm glad I can visit Rome without a passport now.
