The Guardian is running an obit for a Dutch pilot who was awarded the Iron Cross flying for Germany in WWI, and then the DFC by the British for fighting the Germans in WWII.
To quote from the obit :'With the Nazi invasion of Holland in May 1940, van Sloten was drafted into the Royal Dutch air force, and, flying a DC3 Dakota transport, brought a Dornier Do-17 bomber down on a German armoured unit'
There are actually two bits of info that impress me there. In WWII the Dutch resisted the Nazi invasion for 5 days and during that time the guy gets drafted and somehow forces a bomber down while flying a transport plane, which I assume was unarmed like most if not all DC3s were.
