I'd say it's real
Jul. 17th, 2007 06:49 amCurious about the reported leak of the first 60%-or so of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I downloaded and fired up the eMule file sharing program, then searched for the archive and downloaded it. The graphical style of the pages in the photos certainly matches the six American hardcovers, including the artwork. The pre-story matter–title page, dedication, etc. -- is in order. The text is, so far as I have read, consistent with Rowling's style. Spot-checking does seem to indicate it runs several hundred pages. The photographic method used would have made it incredibly difficult to Photoshop up; it's almost certainly pictures of an actual printed book.
It's possible it's a very elaborate fake, sure–but I would not bet anything I cared to lose on it.
And, given how awkward the photographing is and the fact that it's missing the last 40% of the book, it's not even remotely a substitute for the real thing. It's pretty much the biggest possible leak that doesn't really spoil anything.
