Remember those studies that showed men can't tell the difference between a woman being friendly and a woman flirting?  I have a solution!  I was thinking we could issue men at conventions and such buttons or ribbons labeled "Push to Flirt".  Then, if the woman is flirting, she can just reach over and push the button.  Absolute, 100% clarity.

Hmmmmm... Need two: flirting with intent, and flirting without intent. If you only wear one, it can indicate that you don't want to waste your time... or that you're monogamously taken beyond the flirting boundaries...

...Okay, okay, I want Betan earrings. I've been reading the Bujold again...

Steven's button idea is superior to Betan earrings, because it's target-specific. It's entirely possible to want to flirt with one individual while still being as unavailable as the moon to another individual. (Also, it rewards courage and initiative. Which I like.)

a damned fine idea, sir. and for some of us, a second button reading "Old Married Fart, but allowed to flirt" would be useful.

Heh, that's me. As Bonnie has often said, "Go ahead -- I'd worry more if you didn't show an interest in women. Just limit it to flirting." I never did understand the concept of "monogamous = acting like you're on THX 1138 pills outside your relationship."
